The Gazette is free to read and asks readers for no account, card or email. If you tip the desk or underwrite the paper, our checkout partner (Stripe) handles the payment and we keep only what we need for the receipt. We don’t sell any list. Sponsors and underwriters never get reader data.
We don’t run location-tracking products. Hosting logs may exist on the server for security.
ZIP code lookups on Working Ledger. When you type a ZIP code, your browser asks free public services to name the place and county (Zippopotam.us, the Federal Communications Commission and the Census Bureau). To show Ticketed shows nearby, the ZIP code also goes to our own server, which turns it into the middle of that area and asks Ticketmaster for shows within about 40 miles. Our server does not store or log the ZIP code; it keeps the show list for a few hours, filed under a coded map square rather than the ZIP, and keeps a short-lived count of requests to stop abuse. Your home ZIP code is remembered only in your own browser. We will not keep the ZIP.
Ticketmaster links. Show names, dates and venues come from Ticketmaster. When you follow a show link you are on Ticketmaster’s site, under their own terms and privacy policy, and they may set cookies there. The Gazette sells no tickets and serves no ads.
